Suffering from constant headache or migraine pain? Image Dental can help!
If you suffer from constant migraines or headaches, you could have Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) syndrome. TMJ syndrome occurs when the temporomandibular joint is not functioning properly, which can cause neck pain, facial pain, ear pain, locked jaw that is difficult to open/close and problems biting.
What causes TMJ syndrome?
In most cases, TMJ syndrome is caused by an incorrect bite or malocclusion.
Constant trauma to the joint such as Bruxism (teeth grinding) and jaw clenching are also major causes. Bruxism is a habit which usually occurs during sleep and can change the adjustment of the jaw, which impacts the temporomandibular joint and creates pain and discomfort.
Other causes include Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid arthritis, which causes inflammation in the joint and if left untreated can result in destruction of cartilage and bone degeneration.
